Autoimmune diseases are found in 1 of every 10 people. 50 million Americans walk around carrying the weight of an autoimmune disease, but little is spoken about it. With the better-known diseases like Lupus, Crohn’s disease, Addison’s disease, Type I Diabetes, Celiac disease, and Rheumatoid Arthritis the world gets a glimpse at what the body does to itself when the immune system attacks its own healthy cells. Still, there are more than 100 different and rare autoimmune diseases that affect the world's population. There may not be a specific “cure” to autoimmune diseases but in this lifetime we hope people can come together and talk about the severity of it all. Through education, advocacy, and fundraising, we believe we can bring awareness and support to the autoimmune disease community.
With our Autoimmune Disease Diary Series, we work to share people's voices and create awareness for a variety of autoimmune diseases. We hope that by spreading individual’s personal experiences and journeys, the community can grow together and gain a better understanding for what autoimmune disease can do and look like.
